- Introduction to Finance and Control: the need for management accounting; the role of the management accountant in business process; comparison to financial accounting.
- Income statement: the concept of income, expense, inflow, outflow; natural approach to P&L; functional approach to P&L.
- Costing: cost object, cost unit, cost center; introduction to cost classification; historical cost vs economic value.
- Cost behavior: cost behavior and output; determining the fixed and variable element of cost; application of the high-low method.
- Marginal costing and pricing: marginal costing concept and contribution; full cost and marginal cost pricing; markup and margin concept.
- Breakeven analysis: breakeven point; margin of safety; required profit level.
- Budgeting: what are budgets; principal budget factor; hierarchy of budgets; different budget types; preparation of flexible budgets; budget variances
